José Manuel López Velarde describes himself as a father, queer, atheist, and apostate. His identity is woven from multiple layers that intertwine with his professional journey and personal activism. Throughout his path in theater and music, he has undergone deep transformations—acknowledging his own privileges and embracing a commitment to creating space for traditionally excluded voices. His artistic sensibility goes hand in hand with a social consciousness that drives him to build fairer, safer, and more inclusive environments.

In addition to his work in the performing arts, he has been an active figure in the defense of human rights, particularly in matters related to sexual, gender, and orientation diversity. His role as an activist and spokesperson has encompassed areas such as increasing visibility for diverse families, debunking the so-called “gender ideology,” promoting gender equity, and defending the right to gender expression in childhood. Across multiple fronts, he works toward a world where all identities have a rightful place.
