
ABOUT ME
José Manuel López Velarde is a playwright, lyricist, theater director, and producer, best known for creating original Mexican musicals. His works have been performed over 6,500 times and have earned awards from theater critics' and journalists' associations. He has collaborated at various stages of project development with the Public Theatre, Orin Wolf, and Disney Theatrical.
He is the founder of LATE Producciones and La Teatrería, a theater venue established in 2015 in Colonia Roma, one of Mexico City’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
In addition to his theatrical credits, he has actively served as an advocate and spokesperson on issues related to sexual, gender, and orientation diversity—such as diverse families, gender ideology, gender equity, and children with diverse gender expressions, among others.
José Manuel López Velarde has written and directed musicals such as Mentiras, el musical, ¡Si nos dejan!, La vida es mejor cantando, and El último teatro del mundo. He is currently working on the stage adaptation of La Mano Peluda, based on the popular radio show.
