José Manuel López Velarde is a playwright, lyricist, theater director, and producer renowned for creating original Mexican musicals.

His works have reached over 6,500 performances and have been recognized by theater critic and journalist associations. He has worked across various project development stages with The Public Theater, Orin Wolf, and Disney Theatrical. He is the founder of LATE Producciones and La Teatrería, a theater space established in 2015 in Colonia Roma, one of Mexico City's most vibrant neighborhoods.

In addition to his theater credits, he has served as an activist and spokesperson on issues related to sexual diversity, gender identity, and sexual orientation, including diverse families, gender ideology, and gender equity, among others.
