Based on "The Cloven Viscount" by Italo Calvino, "El hombre partido" is José Manuel López Velarde’s professional theatre debut as a director and playwright.

In this story, after going off to battle, a man is split in two by a cannonball. When the war ends, only one half returns home. This half of his body sets out to terrorize everyone, with the goal of splitting them in his own image and likeness. When he is reunited with the other half of his body, they realize that two separate halves do not necessarily make a whole man.​
