EL PALACIO DEL OLVIDO

(2010)

Co-Creation, Direction, and Performance: José Manuel López Velarde

JM stores all his memories in a massive warehouse—each one crystallized into an object he can return to whenever he wants to relive that moment. In this space, autumn is a pile of leaves, school is a wall filled with desks, and a uniform is reduced to a single button.

The warehouse is cared for and meticulously organized by K, who knows exactly where everything is—as if it were part of her own body.

One night, JM brings in a group of people: an audience he wishes to keep among his memories. K doesn’t understand what that means or where such a thing should be stored, so they embark on a journey through the warehouse to find a place for them.

Along the way, they discover something else—a strange creature that appears and begins to disrupt everything. But how did it get in? Could it be something... or someone JM once forgot he wanted to forget?

El Palacio del Olvido was an immersive performance set in a three-story warehouse, created for an audience of just 20 people.
